As Canada’s top corporate citizen, Boralex is proud to shine a spotlight on the inspiring stories that reflect our company culture, our values, and our commitment to a sustainable energy future.
At Boralex, we firmly believe that a fair and inclusive work environment allows everyone to reach their full potential. That’s why we actively invest in initiatives that foster inclusion and equitable employment practises by offering enriching career paths and long-term growth opportunities.
Inclusion and Equitable Employment Practices:
The Pillars of Our Energy
A Transformative Partnership with Niagara College
Since 2021, Boralex has partnered with Niagara College’s Women in Trades program to offer hands-on internships for women pursuing careers in skilled trades. Under the guidance of Jason Weir and another teacher from the program, they select the top candidates are selected to join our Niagara wind site in Ontario.
The program exposes interns to a variety of technical trades — electricity, mechanics, carpentry, and more. From day one, they’re involved in electrical work and mentored by an experienced team. They quickly gain both confidence and autonomy.
Field Mentorship to Empower Women in Trades
To ensure a successful integration, Boralex prioritizes hands-on technical mentorship. At the Niagara site, Meredith Halfpenny, a seasoned wind technician, has guided several interns through their experience.
The Power to Break Barriers:
Building a More Inclusive Industry
This program goes far beyond training. It’s about breaking down barriers in a traditionally male-dominated industry and giving women real opportunities to envision a future in renewable energy.
A Model to Expand to New Regions
Encouraged by its positive impact, Boralex is now exploring ways to expand the internship program to more sites and regions. The goal: multiply opportunities for women in trades, build a strong network of female talent, and continue transforming the industry from the inside out.
