Lakeshore (Canada), April 20, 2026 – Boralex inc. (« Boralex ») (TSX : BLX) and Walpole Island First Nation marked an important milestone on April 13th with the official inauguration of the Sanjgon Battery Energy Storage Facility, in Lakeshore, Ontario, bringing together community members, partners and key stakeholders to celebrate the successful delivery of this landmark project.
The ceremony highlighted the collective effort behind Sanjgon and the strength of the partnership between Boralex and Walpole Island First Nation. The event opened with a drum circle, followed by a Treaty Moment led by Dean Jacobs, Senior Advisor to Council for Walpole Island First Nation. An opening prayer and address were then shared by a Walpole Island First Nation Elder, grounding the ceremony in respect, tradition, and reflection.
Remarks were also delivered by Leela Thomas, Chief of Walpole Island First Nation, Patrick Decostre, President and Chief Executive Officer of Boralex, and Robin Deveaux, Executive Vice President and General Manager, North America, Boralex. The ceremony also included remarks from Tracey Bailey, Mayor of the Municipality of Lakeshore, who acknowledged the project’s importance for the region.
The ceremony concluded with an official ribbon‑cutting, symbolically marking the beginning of long‑term operations at the Sanjgon facility. Guests were then invited to take part in a guided site tour, offering a closer look at the installations and a better understanding of the project’s strategic role within Ontario’s electricity system.
Commissioned in December 2025, the 80 MW / 320 MWh Sanjgon facility was developed by Boralex in partnership with Walpole Island First Nation. The facility plays a key role in strengthening Ontario’s electricity system by enhancing grid stability, supporting the integration of renewable energy and providing reliable power during periods of peak demand.
Throughout the development, construction, and now operation of the facility, health and safety remain a top priority, guiding all activities on site.
