Natural gas, as a fossil
fuel, is a source of energy having
very high thermal efficiency. Because the steam is recovered
and sold to an industrial consumer, this type of production
makes it possible to reach high thermal efficiency factors and
to meet environmental requirements.
The expertise developed by Boralex in natural gas-fired cogeneration
allows it to design, develop, build, finance and operate this
type of plant elsewhere in Canada and other countries.
At present, Boralex manages two natural gas-fired cogeneration
plants having a combined capacity of 14 MW:
Blendecques Power Station
The pioneer's route
With a view to maximizing and diversifying its energy production
potential, Boralex has shown the way toward a new type of energy
production in Québec. Thus, in 1989, Boralex became the
first owner and operator of a
natural gas-fired cogeneration plant in the province.
Located in Kingsey Falls, this power station, is the first
of its kind is in Québec. In
2002, Boralex sold this power station to Boralex Power Income
Fund, but retained its management and operation.
Started up in 2002, the Blendecques, France, natural gas-fired
cogeneration plant, reflects the Boralex s know-how in
this area of power generation. With an installed capacity of
14 MW, it supplies steam to the Norampac Avot-Vallée
paper mill that is adjacent to it.
In the next few years, Boralex intends to increase
the potential of this area of energy
production by making use of its expertise in the development
of various projects.
